My Story
During my elementary summer camp we had LEGO robotics classes. It was fun to build models and bring them to life. My parents enrolled me into Kids Robotic academy where I first learned how to build a EV3Bot. I still vividly remember the races we would have between the Bots and it would be mostly boys in those camps.
When I went to middle school I was amazed they had a robotics club which participated in competitions. That is where my engineering story began. My love and fascination for engineering grew and this interest in engineering made me choose Project Lead the Way (PLTW) course in High school. I currently study Introduction to Engineering and Engineering Science as my courses and I am proud to say I am part of the Pearadox First Robotics team 5414 which also has a Girls Get Together program, whose main aim is to empower woman into the field of engineering. During this year I helped out middle school robotics team for my volunteer hours and realized I loved working with these younger kids and teach them robotics.
This Ambassador program would be a perfect opportunity for me to introduce engineering to young girls and encourage them to join Robotics club by using my own story as an example. In a world where woman are still a misfit in a "Manly" world of Engineering I want to empower these girls with STEM principles which will hopefully allow them to grow their interest over time.
My Project
My project involves hosting Girls Scouts teams to visit our Pearadox Facility, learn about tools and STEM concepts training, have fun in driving a 120lbs robot and explore the possibility of being the future girl engineer.By exposing girls to engineering early, I hope to fight the gender gap in STEM .
