My Story
I was always drawn to how things worked and started to take apart anything I could get my hands on. I was in the first grade in my school’s library when I discovered a book about science and engineering. That day, I went home and asked my parents what an engineer does. They told me what an engineer does and I instantly knew that was my calling. I have always loved science, math, and solving problems, so I was hooked. From then on, I was determined to become an engineer. I was lucky enough to attend a project-based elementary school, providing me with a lot of exposure to STEM. We would do lots of hands-on projects like egg drop competitions. Through those experiences, I discovered I loved to build things and learning how things worked.
In middle school, I met my biggest engineering influence, Ms. Trojanowski, my first real engineering teacher. She inspired and empowered me by showing me what an engineer truly is. As a result, I am now in my school’s engineering pathway. I would make a great EngineerGirl ambassador because I have an immense passion for engineering that I want to share with other girls and help them feel the same way I do about STEM. I want to provide the same spark to other girls that Ms. Trojanowski gave to me. I have worked with younger kids in the past through volunteering, which taught me about my passion for teaching others what I know.
My Project
My project is a program that will connect girls in grades 6-8 to high-school-age girls in engineering programs and professional female engineers who will act as mentors as the girls are introduced to the foundation of engineering and different engineering fields, and create a safe space for girls in engineering.
