My Story
In school, I remember my first Science Fair competition in 4th grade. This was the start of my thirst for knowledge. I would always ask my parents to take me to museums because I loved reading the boards and seeing the intricate displays. When I got to 5th grade, I remember getting my first Lego robot. I spent hours on end playing around with the program trying to achieve various goals. In 6th grade, I was able to compete with a team. We had to make the robot follow a certain path and knock down various objects.
I remember being the only woman in the competition. I also noticed, in math class and Science Olympiad females are largely underestimated and outnumbered. This gender representation gap has motivated me to study harder and prove I am equally as capable and qualified to excel in the STEM field. Many aspects of my identity and experiences shaped my goal to pursue a field in STEM, this includes my supportive parents, culture, gender, and my ambitious goal to learn more.
My Project
My project will engage my local community of girls ages 11- 18 in STEM. The program duration will be 8 weeks, starting December 1st. Each week will have a workshop with STEM related subjects. It will teach girls about STEM and develop their skills in teamwork and critical thinking.
