My Story
I have been passionate about engineering since I was a young girl. I have always had an interest in sustainable energy and the environment, and how engineering can be used to solve some of the world's most severe environmental crises. In sixth grade, I created a full presentation to my parents about why we should have solar panels on our home. In eighth grade, I proposed a plan to my principal to replace all the water fountains with bottle filling stations to help eliminate waste.
Now that I am in high school, physics is my favorite class, and I love learning about how I can apply the principles of physics to improve my life and the lives of those around me. I am a founding member of our school's VEX Robotics Club and I am also participating in the Girls Who Code Summer Intensive Program this summer, which will give me some coding experience prior to my presentations.
My Project
By bringing hands-on and relatable experiments to young girls in grades 3-5 at the Glen Cove After School Program, as well as a field trip to Webb Institute, I will demonstrate that engineering is a part of our everyday lives, and get them excited about exploring a career in engineering.
