My Story
Over the summer of 2018 I learned about the Internet of Things (IoT), a concept that creates products like the Apple watch and Fitbit, at a summer camp at Georgia Tech. The IoT projects involve coding and building hardware to create a real life tangible product for multitudes of applications in our lives. This camp inspired me to design a smart irrigation system - which applied my learnings to a critical need of water conservation. I plan to share this knowledge from Georgia Tech with students at Summerour Middle School through the EngineerGirl Ambassador Program.
My Project
I will be running an after school Engineering Club for girls at a deserving middle school and also organizing Engineering Events at my local public library for girls. The participants will learn microbit coding and the use of Internet of Things (IoT). This will be an educational and empowering experience for students. It will be hands on and students will be able to create many sensing, alarm, remote access solutions. Later in the program I will introduce various science fairs for students to compete. The library events will generate curiosity and interest in young minds to further explore Engineering as a career option.
