My Story
As long as I can remember, I have loved science! My passion for engineering and chemistry started when I was 7. I had the opportunity to be a part of a science fair when I was in second grade and I presented mine on the effect of baking soda in baking cookies. I won first place in the fair and ever since I have been consumed with engineering and chemistry books, fairs, museums, camps, Engineering Girl competitions, and the latest success was winning the Go For Launch Higher Orbit STEAM competition. My team's project is currently be designed by engineers and will be launched on a Blue Origin rocket launch this summer. l will seek a degree in Chemical Engineering. My desire is to provide young girls will the opportunity such as I had as young child to encourage them in this field.
My Project
There are young girls living in Seattle homeless shelters who don't have the opportunity to see how exciting and wonderful engineering can be. My desire is to bring interactive, STEAM based activities to homeless shelters launching in celebration of National STEAM Day on Nov. 8 and monthly workshops to follow. Through these workshops, they will be given access to learn firsthand the wonders of engineering and begin to spark their hidden potential in these fields. My goal would be to break down the socioeconomic barriers and give them the opportunity to begin dreaming of an obtainable future in the STEAM fields.
