My Story
I lead a group of kindergarteners at my church, making paper airplanes and answering questions. At school, I guide first graders, teaching them to code and solve challenges. I also mentor freshmen, helping sooth doubts about high school.
Much like the kids I guide, I question everything. I have a constant need to learn, accomplish, and never stop. I am fascinated by the endless possibilities, which motivate me, encourage me to pursue my goals. And they have sparked my interest in engineering: a field where problems are solved and possibilities are explored.
Engineers solve problems. They view the world with curiosity and excitement, always looking for unexplored opportunities. Yet no matter how much we discover, there are more questions to be asked. I am drawn to the endless possibilities.
My Project
At my high school, I will start an EngineerGirl club for 5th and 6th grade girls to come and participate in a series of events. We will meet twice a month focusing on different topics. Topics may include artificial intelligence, food, space, environment, buildings, medicine, and transportation. Meetings start with a review of the topic, videos and Powerpoints. This will introduce related fields of engineering. The rest of the time will be spent on various experiments that correspond with the monthly topic. Girls will create their own bottle launchers, water filters, and rubber band cars. They will make recycled paper mache and conduct food science experiments. As they utilize the skills they have, girls will realize how much they can really do. Every four months, my club will host a larger event that invites friends and family to participate in engineering activities. This event will consist of a speaker night, project exhibitions, and fun activities.
