My Story
I am a passionate programmer and a future software engineer in Arlington, Texas. My love for programming started when I was nine, and my decision to become a software engineer occurred when I was eleven. In over three years of experience with computer programming, I have connected with engineering and programming related fields. I have experience with the engineering design process and data visualization, as I was a participant in Rice University’s data visualization camp.
I’m willing to engage, participate, and make a difference through my project. I also look to work beyond the project by answering questions and helping girls that want to learn more about engineering. I look forward to empowering young girls to explore engineering and computer science related fields!
My Project
I plan to create a fun and engaging digital presentations to be included in my school's newsletter. I can help students gain respect for engineers by explaining ways in which engineers impact everyday lives. I will explain the different types of engineers and make sure students participate in the conversation by asking questions.
Through demostrations of hands-on activities during the digital presentations, students will learn how to create webpages with HTML, basic programs with JavaScript, and styling techniques with CSS. Engineering concepts will also be of high importance throughout the live sessions and blog posts. Engineering activities will include naming parts of the engineering design process, differentiating between types of engineers, and learning about important factors in engineering. Through these activities, students might gain a liking for engineering and/or computer science, leading them to do more research and encouraging them to read the articles and try the quizzes that I will be creating.
