What I Do I am a geotechnical engineer (a type of civil engineer). As a geo-tech, I make sure the buildings have a strong foundation and you guys are safe. I work on the most basic material available everywhere on the earth- SOIL!
Why Engineering? My heart always went out for people who lost their lives due to mistakes of an engineer who designed an unsafe structure. I strive to work towards safe and sustainable construction activities by utilizing my best engineering skills.
School Days I graduated with a Master of Science in Civil Engineering (Geotechnical Engineering) from Texas A&M University, College Station in 2023. I completed my undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering from Punjab Engineering College, India.
Proud Moments I am a proud recipient of the 'American Society of Indian Engineers and Architects (ASIE) Scholarship', 'Willy F. Bohlmann, Jr. '50 Family Fellowship in Geotechnical Engineering' and the 'Zachry Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering Excellence Fellowship'. I have recently been elected as the first female Vice-President of TAMU Chapter of Geo-Institute (ASCE).
Challenges The civil engineering industry sadly, remains male-dominated. The challenge remains to balance the skewed gender ratio in this non-IT/software field of work. Even if girls choose to study engineering, the trend is to opt for IT/software degrees owing to the myths revolving around disciplines like civil engineering which are fundamental for the human civilization.
Hobbies I love to spend my time focusing on my fitness, cooking Indian dishes, and reading inspirational books.
