What I Do I am an RF and Traffic Engineer. I plan and prioritize which sites are needed to improve the speed and coverage of the network, then I design and optimize them.
Why Engineering? I chose engineering because it is a challenging and constantly evolving field. The opportunities in engineering are endless and new jobs are constantly being created in this field.
School Days I graduated from the University of Hawaii with a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering. While in school I was active in engineering clubs like IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) and SWE (Society of Women Engineers). Participating in these clubs helped me develop professional skills I would not have learned in the classroom.
My Day At Work I usually spend my day attending meetings or reading about new features or tools designed to improve the network, designing cell sites and planning new solutions for the network.
Best Part I think the best part of being an engineer is seeing measurable change that you made. For example, when we build a cell site in an area with poor speeds or coverage, you can measure how many more users are using the site and how good their performance is. I love having fast speeds and coverage wherever I go!
Proud Moments I am most proud of individually planning and designing the entire 5G network in Hampton Roads, Virginia.
Challenges The most difficult challenges I faced required thinking outside of the box and coming up with solutions that could be implemented more efficiently.
My Family My parents and sisters (1 human and 1 dog) are in Hawaii. My new smaller family include my boyfriend and dog.
Dreams and Goals My short term goals are to improve my regional market, while my long term goals are to improve markets on a national level.
Inspiration I think my friends and family inspire me to do my best when they surprise me with what they can do.
Want to be an Engineer? I would recommend aspiring young female engineers to get involved with projects that involve things like building code or circuits so they can explore different types of engineering and figure out what they like about engineering so they can pursue it.
Hobbies I enjoy going on hikes or walks with my dog, traveling, photography and trying new restaurants with my friends.
