What I Do Currently I am a process engineer in a Quality organization. I help Design and Development Engineers identify ways to work efficiently.
Why Engineering? I chose Engineering because I was good at Math and Science. When I learned that Engineering is essentially solving problems with Math and Science, I knew it was for me.
School Days Gannon University, Erie, PA - Bachelor's of Electrical Engineering Syracuse University, Syracuse, NY - Master's of Electrical Engineering Rensselaer Polytechnic University, Troy, NY - MBA
My Day At Work I have a diverse engineering background. I have worked as a Design Engineer, Marketing Engineer, Sales Engineer, Technical Documentation Manager, Test Engineering Manager, and now as a Process Engineer. All these jobs had different aspects of working alone or with others, individual contributor or leader other people, internal or working with customers, etc. Currently at work I interact with other Engineers to help them work efficiently and improve the way they work. I work remotely from home, interacting with people via email, chat, and online meetings. I travel occasionally, visiting offices with those I work with and my leader.
Best Part I'm always learning new things. This is not a stagnate field. You need to be ready and able to learn and grow.
Proud Moments I have worked in many areas that delivered successful products. That is very satisfying. I have hired and mentored some young women new to the engineering field and watched them grow and learn. That is what I am most proud of.
Challenges Work life balance can be challenging in demanding industries. I've learned to advocate for myself and to seek out organizations and managers that support that in their employees.
Dreams and Goals I am fairly new to my Process Engineering role so my short term goals are to learn more about the field, taking additional training and working towards appropriate certifications. As someone later in her career, I don't have specific goals for traditional advancement. Long term, I want to continue contributing in a meaningful way and be respected as knowledgeable and successful in my work.
Inspiration I've had several excellent mentors and leaders in my career. They've served as role models for me and how I want to work.
Want to be an Engineer? I think Engineering is a field that gives you a world of opportunities. You can work in a number of areas and get variety in your career.
