What I Do I am a Director of Systems Engineering at Verizon. I have responsibility for architecture, design and development of software systems used to provision services on Verizon network.
Why Engineering? I have always been interested in problem solving and computer science is becoming a common denominator in solving some of the biggest human problems.
School Days I have gone to school in India & US. As a young student I was very interested in Mathematics and Physics. I have Bachelors in Electronics, Master in Information Systems and MBA in Technology Management and few other certification related to software and program management.
My Day At Work These days I spent my day managing large programs, developing my team and interfacing with external partners.
Challenges I have been lucky to have mentors and colleagues who have helped me navigate through challenges. Being a data center engineer year I used to work all kind of hours which was exciting but did present challenges when you have a young family.
My Family We are a family of 4, my husband, 2 children and I. My husband is an engineer, my daughter is interested in healthcare and my son plan to pursue Finance and Economics.
Inspiration I belong to a family of engineers and my extended family had many women trail blazers who inspired me to push boundaries in area of STEM.
Want to be an Engineer? If you love STEM, problem solving, designing cool user interfaces, a technology buff and a user you are already a budding engineer. Fuel you passion by getting involved with technology and engineering communities. Seek out mentors who can answer questions and provide guidance. Lastly take engineering or science related courses in school and college.
