Will I still be able to find employment after graduating in my mid-50s?

Hello, I'm 48, I've been a SAHM mom for 16 years, and I never completed college. I am currently enrolled in community college for an associates in mechanical engineering with plans to earn my BS at the university level. I will be in my mid 50s (my brain withstanding), and I am wondering if doing all of this will, given my age, keep me in the running for employment (space industry is my goal)? I haven't been able to find the support for my unique non-traditional student status, so I'm hoping you might be able to help or guide me to a place for help. I'm feel anxious (for time with my age) in my studies as physics and calculus aren't easy, but I work to get my B that is needed for transfer. I don't sleep, I have kids that I don't focus on as I used to (no different than a working mom; not neglectfully), and I'd like to slow my course load per semester down but I fear that will make me even older at graduation and less desirable for employers. Any advice? Thank you in advance for your time. It is appreciated.

I think you can absolutely find career opportunities after you graduate. STEM fields in general have an incredible need for talent and companies hire thousands upon millions of new grad each year. I know it's hard when you don't fit the typical vision of the college grad, but that's actually a good thing. It means you have something to offer that the average college grad does not.

In terms of programs, I'm unfortunately not aware of ones that help grads who started later in life, but that doesn't mean they don't exist. There is for example STEM re-entry programs for people who took long career breaks. I'd look for something similar to that at your university and inquire within the Society of Women Engineers.

Outside of that, I think your dedication is inspiring. I would own your experiences as that is what will ultimately make you a stronger and more desirable candidate. Best of luck o your job search. You've got this!
