Some civil engineers focus on infrastructure, like designing buildings, dams, roads, and bridges. They might focus on lowering energy requirements, increasing resilience to natural disasters, or improving integration of communities. In my area, fluid dynamics, there are many people who focus on problems related to coastal dynamics like erosion and sediment transport (which of course are changing rapidly as the sea levels rise and extreme weather events become more common). Civil engineers also play a major role in transportation-- while mechanical and electrical engineers might play more of a role in designing vehicles to be more efficient, civil engineers study the way those vehicles interact with one another at large scales (like traffic). There are many ways in which civil and environmental engineers address issues related to global climate change! Julia Lopez , Turner Construction Answered Tuesday, May 21, 2024 at 8:56 AM I am currently working in Contruction management with my civil engineering degree, and we frequently build LEED and Envision certified buildings. These buildings become certified by making sustainable choices. If you choose to go into construction, you can build these buildings or help design them if you go structural engineering. I highly recommend you check out LEED's mission: https://www.usgbc.org/leed-tools/scorecard
