What I Do After a 15 year sofware engineering career, I've built deep technical experience and broad business acumen across several industries. This combination has served me well as I moved into leadership roles, culminating in my current Solutions Architecture role at Amazon Web Services. I work with customers to understand their technical pain points and empower them to leverage the infrastructure expertise AWS has built to speed innovation, reduce or eliminate manual maintenance, and of course save money by moving workloads to the cloud, which helps their teams focus on delivering business value.
Why Engineering? The most interesting problems in the world today are in STEM, and recent innovations in technology have democratized the tools available to solve those problems. The more people that choose STEM careers, the more diverse tomorrow's builders will be, and the better solutions we will find!
Want to be an Engineer? In many ways, girls' tendancy to be detail-oriented multi-taskers, combined with our innate compassion, makes us uniquely qualified to be problem solvers in society, so the stereotype that girls aren't cut out for STEM fields simply doesn't hold, as long as girls are given the same opportunities. DO IT. Be a part of the solutions to the world's biggest problems. Choose to solve the hard problems. Find people in your life, in your school, in your company who will mentor you, tell you the truth, and sponsor you to take the next step. You can do it!
