  • Why Engineering?

I chose engineering because I was a student that excelled in and loved math. I enjoyed taking devices and items apart to understand their function, investigating the best solution to fix them (if applicable), and putting them back together. I've always been a hands-on and visual learner. Therefore, engineering is and has been in great alignment with my learning style.

  • Best Part

The best part about being an engineer is the opportunity for continuous learning and hands-on experience. In addition, the many opportunities available in any industry as engineers are always needed.

  • Challenges

The challenges I've met and conquered are similar, if not identical, to the challenges every woman engineer may face at one point in her career. One of my challenges was having to prove myself and my ability. Engineering is a male-dominated industry. As a woman you stand out. However, with standing out comes the opportunity to show exactly why anything the 80% can do, the 20% can do just as well.

  • Want to be an Engineer?

My advice to a young woman considering a career in engineering is to always be open to learning, be open to learning and working outside of your comfort zone, and to always strive to be the best in whichever position/industry you choose to be in. Excel, stand out, always be yourself, and remember to pay it forward to another woman engineer as you ascend in your career.
