Is Engineering the right field for me?

I've been interested in chemical engineering, particularly cosmetic chemical engineering, for some time now. I felt like this pathway would have been good for me as I enjoy science and math and like the lifestyle that it could provide (work, family/life balance, flexibility, hands-on, salary, etc). I'm a little conflicted because I often hear that university, especially the first year, is incredibly difficult and stressful, and I'm afraid that this career choice might leave me with little social life and being alone as I am outgoing and talkative and enjoy working with others rather than isolated. Even though I'm very interested, I'm afraid I could make the wrong choice leaving me unhappy in the future. Any tips? Thank you!!!
