Biography
I obtained my PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Northwestern University, Evanston, IL, USA, in 1993, and am now a Joseph Cummings Professor in Mechanical Engineering there. My research is mainly in the areas of contact/interfacial mechanics, tribological science and engineering. I served the professional communities as a member of Board of Directors of STLE during 2008-2009, Secretary of the Technical Program Committee of the 2005 Word Tribology Congress, Chair of the Program Committee of the 2008 STLE Annual Meeting, Chair of the 2011 ASME/STLE International Joint Tribology Conference. My research work has resulted in eight best-paper awards from ASME and STLE. I was elected Fellow of the ASME in 2009 and STLE in 2007. I received the 2015 STLE International Award, the highest award of the society, and was elected to the US National Academy of Engineering in 2023.
