What I Do As an application engineer, I support software that people use at my company. Specifically, I work on a low-code platform, which other people can use to make their own tools. I get to build and improve apps also, which is something I really enjoy. My team also runs a learning & development program at our company that teaches others about low-code app development.
School Days I actually don't have degrees directly in engineering! I switched to the role I am in now as an application engineer after working as a geologist who liked to build apps/tools, which is now a big part of my job. Before starting my career I studied Biology and Earth/Planetary Sciences at the University of New Mexico, then went to the University of Georgia to get a master's in geology.
Proud Moments I remember the first time I built an app using low-code tools. Even though low-code tools are pretty easy to use I will always be proud of that first app that I made and shared with my team!
Want to be an Engineer? Go for it! The sky is the limit and perseverance is key. Sometimes it can be hard, so it is important to not give up, ask questions and find people who can help you (family, friends, teachers, mentors etc.), and keep dreaming big.
Hobbies I love being outside - regardless of the activity. In the summer I like hiking and mountain biking, in the winter I like to snowboard and cross-country skiing. I also love to make things and have a creative side - I made my own wedding dress from scratch and love DIY home improvement projects.
