My Story
Robotics and Girl Scout are extracurricular activities that have influenced me in a positive way. I have been participating in VEX Robotics Competition since 2018. Recently, the team and I received the Design and Excellence Awards in the Latin-American competition giving us the pass to the Robotics World Championship. I’m the engineering notebook designer. I developed logical thinking through programming, enhanced high esteem, and leadership. I like helping others, stimulate design and problem solving. I can support younger girls because I have positive attitude, ease of communication, ability to relate to others, confidence, self-motivation, and teamwork.
I have gained experience from participating and working in a variety of STEM activities: Lego Mindstorms, flying a drone, VEXcode, Python, 3D print, citizen scientist, and science fairs. Some STEM programs I enjoy most are: NASA SEES Intern 2020, Codepillars Club, Globe Observer Program, and Computer Science for Girls. I am a Seed of Success STEM Ambassador 2019 finalist with my STEM Alliance project between Brígida Álvarez and Apolo San Antonio Schools. I competed in Microsoft Girl STEAM Challenge 2019 in Puerto Rico; Recycled Plastic Bottle Boat Challenges, won first place in 2017 and 2019; and EF Tour for Girls Patch Design Challenge 2020, won first place. I received the NCWIT Puerto Rico and Virgin Island Affiliate Honorable Award 2019 and 2020.
My Project
To accomplish my goals I will create and organize workshops to give girls a chance to try Robotics-STEAM activities. I will partner with Girl Scout troops, teachers, and scientific women to teach, inspire, and motivate Girl Scouts through R-STEAM projects to achieve goals and earned badges. I will develop R-STEAM teams to recruit more girls, so that the workshop can be replicated in the future. The workshops include webinars and challenges to encourage girls to pursue STEM careers.
