Jennifer Charney asked Odetta Scott, Collins Aerospace AddedSunday, July 19, 2020 at 10:08 PM Am I too old to start a mechatronics program and expect to get a job? Is 49 too old to start a 2 year mechatronics AAS program with no related background and seriously expect to be able to get a job at the end? I don't plan on continuing education, just the AAS? I was looking into program at Greenville tech in SC. They have a scholars program at companies like BMW that let you work there P/T the second semester. Maybe they want more women, but probably not closing in on 50 years old? They want people that would be sticking around a lot longer than 15 years? Plus I'd have to first maybe review on Kahn Academy high school level math, physics, circuits, etc? I was reviewing high school math for a while, but as soon as I stop I forget it. I was able to do it ok, pre-calculus stuff. This AAS only has one math class in just algebra and trig so it's not like going into an engineering program. I'm just not sure what I'm up to studying at this point in my life, but I'm long-term unemployed and I let my insurance license expire so I just don't think I can find a job and I have no other skills outside of insurance. Need a realistic plan though. Only thing I've ever "built" is a desktop PC. Would most jobs involve standing most of the day?
