Close Up
  • What I Do

I research nuclear science and technology and explain their uses to government policy makers who make national security decisions.

  • Why Engineering?

I was good at math and science and wanted to use them to solve real-world problems.

  • School Days

BS Industrial Engineering, Florida State University
MS Nuclear Engineering, University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign
PhD Nuclear Engineering, University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign

  • My Day At Work

My work is all about communicating in different forms. Most days I'm reading and writing reports on science and technology. Other days, I'm speaking and bringing those reports to life in front of audiences so that they understand the importance of certain technology and equipment.

  • Best Part

Being able to figure out different technology and tell others why we should pay attention to them.

  • Proud Moments

Briefing policymakers for important meetings (e.g., White House) and hearing points that I identified being used in national security discussions.

  • Challenges

Overcoming the feeling that I didn't belong in engineering or national security because I didn't look like or come from the same place as everyone else in the room.

  • My Family

I have a husband, a three year old daughter and a one year old son.

  • Inspiration

    My family!
