Is there any discrimination of women in the civil engineering field?

I'm currently a junior in high school and there's seems to be discrimination everywhere in my life considering I'm an African American women. Is there going to be a lot of judgement in this profession?

In my experience, there has not been a lot of discrimination. You cannot control whether or not other people chose to judge on the basis of your skin color, gender, age or anything else. That is a reflection of who they are. You can only focus your energy on being the best “you” that you can be, anything else is unproductive. When professional excellence is your mindset, it removes the ability of others to make judgements on your abilities based on things you cannot control. If you choose your profession based on something that might or might not happen, you will end up either not working at all or doing something that is not what you really enjoy and like doing. I encourage you to focus on your goals. Engineering is a rewarding field and there are enough opportunities for everyone to be successful. Best wishes to you as you decide your career path.
