Don't have experience but sounds interesting and rewarding--am I cut out for it?

I'm considering engineering as a possible program in college (I'm currently a junior) but I don't have any experience with engineering or robotics or programming. I've always excelled in math and science, and plan to take difficult courses in statistics, physics, and computer science next year (already been through calc 1 and 2). My draw to engineering is that it is highly lucrative as well as rewarding, I mean engineers can travel and actually change the world! I would really like to be in a profession I find fulfilling but I don't know if I will actually enjoy it or be able to do it. Do most people in engineering programs have experience? I'm not artistically creative but am a critical thinker and a problem solver, hoping this will be enough! Thanks so much! (also, any other courses I should consider taking?)

Your question is very honest and one that I had asked myself before attending engineering school. The answer is absolutely, you'll be okay. I went into college with having absolutely zero engineering skills outside of the two advanced math classes that I took in high school.

Everyone comes in with a different amount of experience with engineering but that's okay! Some individuals are given more opportunities before college to explore those skills while some are not. If you're worried about being behind, an easy way to set yourself apart within engineering (once at college) is to get involved with a student group that works on engineering projects. There's often upperclassmen that are very willing to teach the new members what they know. You may also have to work a little harder at the beginning (I know I did) but your level of knowledge will likely balance out after the first semester or two. Once you get into the more advanced classes, almost everyone is starting off at the same level of knowledge.

As for in high school, it sounds like you're taking the right sort of classes. I'm also not artistically creative, so I wouldn't worry too much about that.
