What I Do I enjoy problem-solving, peer code-review, documentation, collaboration, authoring new libraries and frameworks, and learning new technology. G-d has granted me many talents of which I'm grateful. You can explore some of my technical writings at merilynchesler.medium.com and testdriven.io.
Why Engineering? I like to problem-solve. Engineers are thinkers and problem-solvers. Engineers love to tinker with technology and toys. I couldn't really decide what type of engineer I wanted to be. I took many technical courses in mathematics, science, electrical, chemical, civil and mechanical engineering. But after I found software development, I decided I wanted to be a software engineer -- someone who designs and creates new virtual worlds, plays detective in order to discover software bugs, perform software surgery to remove the bugs, and finally document the discovery and solution for posterity -- a satisfactory start-to-finish process. Since my early career as a software engineer, I have been chosen by my managers as the go-to person to document ideas, designs and code and since then, became known for my technical documentation skills. Thank You G-d for helping me find a career that I love.
School Days I was educated in Malaysia, achieving a high-school equivalent of the British A-levels Diploma and entered University Science Malaysia as a freshman before transferring to Smith College, USA for my junior and senior years, graduating with a Bachelors in Mathematics and Electrical Engineering Minor. Dartmouth College was my next stop where I acquired a professional Bachelor of Engineering degree at Thayer School of Engineering. I became a Software Engineer at various companies including Sun Microsystems (now Oracle). I decided to return to school and enrolled at University of New Hampshire's Master's Program in Computer Science for two years. After dabbling in solo projects involving education, web administration, clothing and graphics design, I pursued and graduated with a Nano-degree in Web Development from Udacity. I continue to acquire knowledge as a life-long learner, where learning never ends.
