What kind of discipline would you suggest for someone like me?

I'm really interested in nuclear and chemical engineering, and NASA or CERN seem like fantastic places to work.

I'm a freshman in an engineering program. I find that I struggle a little bit with the CAD Program we use, Fusion 360, but I can get it with practice. The main reason I chose engineering is because I'm good at math and I love doing it. There are so many different options for what discipline I could major in, and it's amazing that I can get feedback from actual engineers!

I am a Chemical Engineer - I chose the field because I loved Chemistry and Math. Any Engineering discipline is foundational to establish critical thinking and problem solving, regardless of the "discipline". It is important to think about what you love to do and find a job that relates to that. For example, if you love being in the lab (like R&D in a Chemistry lab or a manufacturing site) and doing hands on work, then choosing Chemical or Mechanical engineering may be the way to go. If you love more Modeling & simulation through software design or data analytics, Software Engineering or Mechanical Engineering would be great! Thinking about the type of work you like to do, and not the end company you want to work for, will help you decide your discipline based on your passion and what would make you excited to get up every day. New software and programs are always hard to learn, but take practice to build Mastery. Don't let that be a burden or deter you from choosing a certain field. Everything will have new skills to learn, and the fields and technology are changing so fast that you need a love of continued learning to keep your skills relevant in Engineering.
