Should I try to pursue engineering with an Interdisciplinary Studies B.A. degree?

I have just finished my first year of college at UNC. I want to do engineering, I know UNC isn't an engineering school but they gave me the most money so that's where I went. Anyways, I have the option to do an IDST major (which is a major I would design myself to fit my interests with the help of a faculty member with experience in the field), but I don't know if that will be okay for me to do as far as when I graduate and try to get hired as an engineer somewhere. Should I not try to pursue this?
