What I Do I make development, software, architectural, and product plans for our network 2 to 6 years out.
Why Engineering? Engineering chose me. I started my career by daisey chaining a network in a small non-profit office, that led to baby sitting AS400 billing runs with a small telecom company. That company got bought out by Verizon - and I took every opportunity Verizon offered to me, I am now a Verizon Network Engineer.
School Days I went to the University of Minnesota - Duluth - I have a BA. I have taken opportunities for certifications and training through Verizon.
My Day At Work In the past I have assisted in integrating new architectures into the Verizon network. I assisted in launching many products we all use today - Voice over LTE, Visual Voicemail, 5G, LTE etc. I now meet with product development, vendors and our maintenance and Operations teams to ensure the mid and long term plans for the network fit with capacity, performance, automation and orchestration needs.
Best Part We get to invent and implement most of the cutting edge technology in telecommunications today.
Proud Moments Assisting with the launches of VoLTE, 5G, Visual Voicemail, Visible, OneTalk, working on new patents.
Challenges It is hard being one of the only women in a room of engineers. However I am seeing more and more feminine faces as time moves on.
Dreams and Goals Continue to work on the new cutting edge deployments in Verizon, and assist the upcoming team.
Inspiration I have lived in the thought that you never know the outcome of a challenge if you never try. The worst is letting an opportunity pass you by because you are afraid to take it.
