What I Do I help teams bring power to their new and existing projects. This includes doing early calculations for planning purposes, helping teams provide space for equipment, and coordinating with developers, architects, civil engineers, contractors, and utility providers to get it all done!
Why Engineering? I had not declared a major at the end of my sophomore year but was taking advanced math courses. I was approached by an engineering professor who noted that I should consider engineering due to my strong math and communication skills. I gave it a shot and the consulting engineer position has ended up being a great fit.
School Days I went to the Seattle Pacific University where I also competed as a collegiate gymnast. I graduated in 2008 with a BS in Electrical Engineering. I became Registered as a Professional Engineer in the State of Washington in 2013.
My Day At Work My day is a combination of technical design of electrical systems, speaking with external clients, and managing my business. Every day is unique and I continue to learn something new everyday.
Best Part The design and construction industry is incredibly rewarding because you see your work come to life in a physical form. Friends will likely interact with buildings that we have worked on some way (live in a residential building, work in an office tower, ride on the light rail, etc.).
Proud Moments Passing the Professional Engineering (PE) test was a huge turning point in my career. It is an 8 hour intensive exam that I had studied for months for. Having my PE contributed to my confidence as an engineer and helped clients to take me more seriously as a young engineer.
Challenges The first five years on the job was a lot of difficult and sometimes stressful lessons learned. You don't learn all you need to be successful in school! After a few years of daily learning, you at least figure out what you don't know which helps things go smoother.
My Family I am married to an Aussie who I met in Disneyland and we have one son. It will be fun to see if he develops the engineering bug!
