  • What I Do

I lead an organization that is accountable for the proper planning, scoping and execution of capital projects for my division (PMT).  Projects are improvements to our sites as part of our continuous improvement culture, increase capacity, introduction of new products, consolidating facilities, building new sites, etc.  I am also accountable for Functional Excellence, which includes maintenance excellence (governance and improvements of our maintenance & reliability work processes), process engineering for the chemical sites (AM/UOP) and for advance manufacturing engineers (AME) for the discrete manufacturing sites (SETS & HPS).

  • Why Engineering?

I was very good with Math and science and like the processes aspect of chemical engineering.

  • School Days

I went to school in Colombia.  I am a chemical Engineer from Universidad Industrial de Santander.

  • My Day At Work

Since I am in an administrative line of work now, most of my day is full of meetings to address issues or support the team's needs, I also spend a fair amount of time mentoring under represented minorities and participating in community outreach programs through my company.

  • Best Part

It has given me the opportunity to do a lot of things and learn about technologies as well as design and build chemical plants around the world.

  • Proud Moments

Have been able to get to this level as I come from very humble beginnings.  Knowing that there are engineers out there doing great that I have mentored is also a significant source of pride and joy for me.

  • Challenges

I grew my career in an industry dominated by males.  So I learned very early in my career to adapt to new situations and to learn fast, delivery on results and ask for more.  Learned to be visible to the organization and to network and connect with people at a more personal level.

  • My Family

My father or mother never went to school.  They barely know how to read or write but they both knew education was the ticket out of poverty and instill that in their children.  I grew up in a low income family with 4 children.  My mom was stay home parent.  I have 3 sisters and a brother.

  • Dreams and Goals

Continue to grow my career and continue to mentor and sponsor under represented minorities either in my company or outside.  Longer term, retire and continue to enjoy life.

  • Inspiration

My mother as she always supported me.

  • Want to be an Engineer?

Be willing and open mind to experience anything that comes across your life as an engineer.  Seek out opportunities, don't wait for them to show up either.  Network with purpose.  Work hard to deliver on results.  Have fun along the way.

  • Hobbies

I like to read, to meditate, to connect with my family and to exercise every day.
