What I Do I lead a group of Systems Engineers in the avionics design and integration for the Embraer KC-390 aircraft.
Why Engineering? I love airplanes, traveling and enjoyed math in school. Originally wanting to be a professional pilot, but my flight training didn't work out as I wanted. From there I decided to stay with aviation and pursue aerospace engineering as a major.
School Days Iowa State University:Undergraduate BS in Aerospace Engineering Stevens Institute: Masters Certificate in Systems Engineering
My Day At Work Solving engineering problems with customers and other engineers, running tests on the aircraft rig, coordinating work with other engineers.
Best Part Being able to see the results of my work in the lab as well as through feedback from the customer.
Proud Moments Being able to be a flight test engineer on an experimental flight test, as well as a weapons shoot.
Challenges Being able to communicate with various "types" of communicators; figuring out what speaks to them and talking their language to achieve a desired result.
My Family My heritage is part Ecuadorian. I have one older sibling and I am married with a 2 year old daughter.
Inspiration I look up to Ruth Bader Ginsberg for her attitude and principles. As I was growing up, Sally Ride was an important role model of a female scientist. Currently I look up to any and all strong females in the aviation world, including many that I work with.
Want to be an Engineer? Stick with it; even if at the beginning its not exactly what you want to do, it is a starting point for you to figure out what your passion is.
Hobbies I love traveling, exploring new cultures and foods. I enjoy gardening and hiking. I am a private pilot and enjoy participating in a Women's Pilot group, The Nintey-Nines.
