I recently read that EV battery energy density is way lesser than gasoline. Also, most of the power generated today is from non-renewable sources which falsifies all green energy claims. Whereas even though gasoline to motion energy conversion is 33% efficient, it is easy to refill and causes pollution only in localized areas. I am not a proponent of either technology but I am curious to learn how things may pan out in future.

Hi. My story is a bit unusual and may raise a few eyebrows. I was in my final year of my Medical degree (MD) and tbh, I failed (for certain reasons) my final exam. Worst phase of my life. I searched hard to find another uni to complete my MD but it was painfully difficult. I swallowed my pride and looked into some common alternatives like Biomed Sciences, Optom, Pharm etc. But I just couldn't see myself doing any of these as a career. One day I stumbled upon Biomedical Engineering. It intrigued ...

I don't think it's a crazy decision. Congratulations on making the change. You definitely have to enjoy (85%) of your career -- all jobs have some amount of work that just isn't fun but overall, you need to enjoy it. If you are excited about BME, you are ...

I am definitely older than most in this forum, but I figured it was worth a shot. I read your story on ECN called "I Became an Engineer: Because of a Sewing Machine" and it was definitely something that spoke to me. I am a creative person. I love any kinds of crafts that I can get my hands on, but I also find that I love tinkering with machines and how they work. Recently, I have been exposed to very experienced engineers in my life, but I feel like they are biased in their opinions toward me, ...

Hi Stephanie! I do not think one is ever too old to become an engineer and thirty is definitely not old. :) There will certainly be a learning curve but no different than learning any new discipline at any age. I took up chess in my mid 30s; it was the ...

Some of the hardships are the same as what you might encounter when you do a project at home. You might not have all the resources you want. For example, you might want to make breakfast for your whole family but you don't have enough butter or milk or ...

I am a high school student who absolutely loves engineering, I participate in an engineering program at school, but Math and Science are not my strong suits. I am good at them but they do not come naturally and I must work extremely hard for my A. I know mathematics and science are important skills to have to be an engineer but are there any parts, fields, or engineering jobs that do not need or use math and science very much? Okay that question may sound dumb but I am just trying to weigh out ...

Hi Cecilia. Thanks for your not-dumb question. It's a reasonable thing to wonder. Yes, there are several components of engineering that do not require lots of math and science. There are also some fields that are not as intensive as others. For example, ...

Hi. I started high school thinking i wanted to be a nurse. I started the nursing program this past fall (August 2012) and i just really hated it. I am not a biology person, but i love math and math-based sciences like chemistry and physics. I've done research about engineers and I've gone back and forth between about 3 or 4. I am now down to 2 different ones-electrical and software. I was wondering if you can tell me what software engineers can do and locations they can work. Ideally I would ...

Hi Savanna, Software engineering is an excellent choice and provides lots of opportunities. I think a combination of electrical and software engineering (typically called computer engineering) would allow you to combine both options. There are lots of ...
