Is mechatronics too new?

Is mechatronics a good major? Or is it too new of a field with limited opportunities compared to mechanical or electrical engineering?

Mechatronics sounds really fun! I asked an advisor a similar question once I was already pursuing my degree. I was curious if I should study Nuclear Engineering specifically. His opinion was that it was getter to have the generalized Mechanical Engineering degree. However, I hear of a lot of engineers who are electro-mechanical. I don’t know if they double majored, or minored in one discipline or the other. The great thing about an engineering degree is it teaches problem solving skills. More power to you if you can comprehend the two; electrical engineering was always more difficult for me. I say pursue what is most interesting to you. You will have plenty of flexibility to change your mind as your education progresses. A couple of years out of school you will be more a product of your work than of the title of your degree. Good luck!
