EngineerGirl Ambassador Rules of Conduct

EngineerGirl Ambassadors are role models for girls across the country. They not only encourage other girls to explore the excitement and opportunities of engineering, but also exemplify the honesty and integrity that are hallmarks of the profession.

EngineerGirl Ambassadors will conduct themselves honorably, responsibly, ethically, and lawfully at all times.

This is one of the fundamental cannons for engineers found in the Code of Ethics of the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE). Ambassadors are encouraged to read through the complete NSPE code of ethics to understand what professional engineers expect of themselves in work that is essential to the health, safety and happiness of others.

Ambassadors are expected to model respectful and responsible behavior when working with girls in their communities, when doing interviews or presentations about their projects, when representing the program at any event, or when speaking about EngineerGirl or engineering in general.

As leaders and representatives, the actions of EngineerGirl Ambassadors will affect how successful the program will be and how future participants will be received, particularly at national events. While participating in NAE or SWE sponsored events ambassadors will:

  • Follow all local, state, and federal laws
  • Behave in a way that does not endanger themselves or others
  • Be reachable at all times through a cell phone, room phone, or chaperone
  • Participate fully in all planned activities
  • Remain at the conference facilities or hotel unless prior approval is granted by their chaperone and EngineerGirl staff are notified
  • Sleep in the room to which they have been assigned
  • Avoid sexual or exclusive relationships, which distract from in the networking and team-building activities available at these events.

Failure to abide by these simple rules of conduct may result in the student being removed from the program and sent home at her parents’ expense.
