How often do you use advanced math and physics skills in industrial engineering?

Hi, I’m thinking about majoring in industrial engineering in college. The field really interests me and I think I could have the skills to do well in this type of job. I’ve been looking at typical college coursework for the major and seeing many advanced calculus and physics courses (among other challenging subjects). I’m good at math and physics and I know with some hard work I’ll be able to handle it in college. I was just wondering how often you really use intense calculus and mechanics on an everyday basis as an industrial engineer. Some of the job descriptions I’ve seen don’t sound like they involve much of it. Thank you.

    Hi, Hannah,

I am happy to know that you are considering industrial engineering as a career path.

Industrial is probably the most versatile so you can go either way. Choose intense calculus and mechanics or not, however, if you are looking for heavy mechanics then i suggest that you explore mechanical engineering.

If you tell me more about what you like about Industrial engineering or what you are looking for, then and i can help you more.

Engineering is a great career choice, especially for women!

    Hope you reply!
