How does a Mechanical Engineer become a Mechatronics Engineer?

I am about to enroll into a university as a mechanical engineering student but would later like to venture into mechatronics which unfortunately isn't offered at the university i intent to study at. How and what route do I take, how long will it take me to become a Mechatronics engineer after having possession of a Mechanical Engineering degree?

You can do an electrical engineering degree later, and also do a computer systems engineering degree or computer science degree later, so that you understand the electrical and electronics side of mechatronics, and the computer systems side of mechatronics. Or you can choose to do any of those degrees now, and the other studies later. Regardless, it takes deep skills in mechanical, electrical and computer systems in order to build mechatronic systems. So whichever field you specialise in will be beneficial to mechatronics projects.
