Ally AddedWednesday, October 25, 2017 at 3:50 AM I am not sure what kind of job I would like to do. Any suggestions? I am a Freshman in high school, but I am worried about what kind of job I am going to have and if I will enjoy it and it will fit my needs. I would like to be an environmental, mechanical, or civic engineer. (I am not yet sure what kind of engineering yet) I would like to be able to help others, possibly in third world countries, but still, earn enough money. I would also like to travel when I am a young adult but have opportunities to settle down when I am older. As a matter of fact, I did not even know enough to consider being an engineer! The good news is that most of us figure out what our passions are as we go through our degree programs. It sounds as if you already know your passion and that’s helping developing countries—which is a phenomenal goal. All of those majors you are interested in can do just that. As a matter of fact, engineers help all people through the work we do. As you go through engineering, it is very important that you do activities that can help you learn about what you want to do. One of the most important activities is to do internships with companies (most engineering students do summer internships to gain a better understanding of all the job possibilities). In your case, you should participate in campus clubs such as the Engineers without Borders, which is an organization that works on impactful projects in developing countries. You can take advantage of all the activities that happen at universities as you go through your degree. Through these activities/clubs/organizations, you will learn a great deal about what you want to do in life. I wish you very much success! Karen
