What if you are the engineer, the company wanted to build a building but the community disagree with the proposal, and there is a conflict between the community and the company.

What should the engineer do, if there is a conflict between tge company and the community?

Engineers have to work with a lot of different people and often some of those people have different motivations or things they want from a project – however every reputable engineering company will have various specialist disciplines to respond effectively with the communities they work in.

Engineers need good negotiation skills and learn how to get solutions to problems that everyone is comfortable with. They also work with other people in their team who may have different strengths and expertise and they can also help resolve conflicts.

It is important to listen to concerns of people, understand exactly what their concerns are and if there is a variation on the proposed solution that they may be happy with. The engineer also understands the technical detail of their projects, why something is being done and why it is that particular way. By sharing this with others, they might understand better the reasons and no longer have objections.

In your example, the community might not like one particular part of the building and if that was changed or something small added, they might not have any objections to the rest, but the project team don’t know that. Also, the new development might be knocking down an existing building the community likes, but it could be old and unsafe which the community does not realise. In the case of buildings, in most countries, there is also a planning permission process run by the local council which allows people to raise their objections.
