Taylor AddedThursday, August 17, 2017 at 3:20 PM Hi, so I was just wondering what the actual difference is between bioengineering and biomedical engineering. I am just trying to decide which one would be the better major in college, thank you Reset Sort By Default Monique Frize , Carleton University and University of Ottawa Answered Friday, September 22, 2017 at 11:39 AM The definition of the two fields of biotechnology and biomedical engineering are vastly different. A definition from wikipedia: Biotechnology is the exploitation of biological processes for industrial and other purposes, especially the genetic manipulation of microorganisms for the production of antibiotics, hormones, etc. Biomedical engineering (BME) is the application of engineering principles and design concepts to medicine and biology for healthcare purposes (e.g. diagnostic or therapeutic). In my case, I work in biomedical engineering, developing decision support aids for physicians involved in neonatal and pediatric care, as well as with obstetricians to help predict the occurrence of premature birth. I also work on medical imaging to assess rheumatoid arthritis and other clinical conditions. I hope this helps to explain the difference between the two fields.
