I’ll try to separate it a little bit. You are really asking a couple different questions: 1) what makes a good electronics (electrical) engineer, 2) how can you go to Cambridge, and 3) how important is math? These are all great questions. The most important ingredient in any engineer is creativity and imagination. Innovation is simply creativity applied towards a purpose, and the role of engineers in society is to innovate. However, math is very important. Without math, the engineer is unable to tell if their creative idea is realistic or not. In many cases, human lives could be at stake. Therefore, good math skills are critical. That said, just because you are average now, does not mean that you will always be average. Professional athletes practice their sport every day – their skill is part natural talent, and part dedication. If you truly want to be the best at something, then it is important to practice it. Therefore, if you want to be the best engineer, then practice math. Regarding getting a masters degree at Cambridge: Cambridge does not offer a MS degree in electrical engineering, so it is impossible for anyone to get an MS in electrical engineering from Cambridge. But there are literally 1,000’s of other schools that do have masters degrees in electrical engineering. To get accepted to a good MS program, it is necessary to do well during your undergraduate program. Typically, a student will pursue a MS in the same program as their undergraduate. Therefore, if you want an MS in electrical engineering, then you should look for Universities that have undergraduate programs in electrical engineering. You have a lot of exciting decisions ahead and you are asking all of the right questions! Good luck!
