Samantha AddedWednesday, February 22, 2017 at 6:49 PM What engineering degree would be best I am very interested in bioengineering, but everything I have read suggests picking a more traditional engineering degree. I have always been very interested in medical research can I still do this with a mechanical or electrical engineering degree? I am still in CC so I am trying to decide between UCSC which has bioengineering or my local CSU which has mechanical/electrical. Would getting a BS in mechanical and a MS in bioengineering be a good option? Biomedical Engineering is a field where we have combination of electronics and human body.In this branch of engineering we come across subjects which are part of Electrical engineering, electronics, Instrumentation engineering-(PLC Scada of automated instruments used in manufacturing),Electronics and communication -(Signal processing of ECG,EMG,body signals) and Mechanical engineering (Biomechanics-Fluid mechanics for blood flow, GRF for Physiological measurements systems). Thus I would say, If your opt for Biomedical engineering, you will get the core subjects of your interest. In mechanical engineering , you wont be able to learn biology and then pursuing MS in BME can be bit tough . Good Luck :)
