high school classes to take to become an aerospace engineer

I am a sophomore in high school, and I was wondering what classes you might recommend. I am interested in studying for aerospace/aeronautical engineering.

    Hi Caitlyn:
I'm glad to hear that you have an interest in engineering! Aerospace/aeronautical engineering is primarily a study of applied physics in the super cool subject area of air and space travel. If your high school offers advanced placement classes in physics, mechanics, electricity & magnetism, and mathematics (calculus, statistics, etc), you should definitely look up the prerequisites for those and head in that direction. In addition to your course work, if you make a high enough score on the AP exam for those subjects, your college can accept those test scores as credit for college classes so you'll be ahead of the game when you start your undergraduate engineering education! This saves you both money and time, valuable assets on your road to becoming an engineer. If you don't score quite high enough on the test to get college credit at your chosen university, you'll at least have been exposed to the material before entering the college class and will have a better chance of making an excellent grade!

If your school doesn't offer AP classes, consider taking some college course work at a local community college during your junior and senior years of high school if you are able to schedule free periods that sync up at your high school. Anything you can do to get a head start on your prerequisites for your engineering courses is a plus!

Thanks for your question, and best of luck to you in your continued education!
