I'm so sorry I didn't see your question until now! I think by far, my favorite "engineering" book is, "The Martian" by Andy Weir. I say "engineering" because it is a fiction book, yet it touches on so many similar experiences that I've had in real life engineering. The author is actually an engineer! Otherwise, a lot of science fiction books will also get you closer to understanding what it's like to be an engineer and solve problems. I would recommend "Hidden Figures" and "Ready Player One". Probably the best non-fiction book I read in my first year in college was, "Outliers" by Malcolm Gladwell.
