Are there not enough jobs for aeronautic engineers?

Hello, I'm 15 and I have an important question for my future career: Are there some chances to be unemployed after a diploma as aeronautic engineering cause I heard that it's a closed circuit. When I say closed circuit I mean that there are not many companies that needs aeronautic engineers, and also if it's gonna be difficult to find a post. Thank you

Hi - Great question! I wouldn't worry too much about finding a job if you pursue a career in aerospace engineering - the industry is always looking for passionate engineers and leaders.

Historically, the Aerospace & Defense (A&D) industry has provided millions U.S. jobs and seen long periods of sustained growth. Although the A&D industry has been impacted by a reduction in travel during the COVID-19 pandemic, most experts believe the industry will rebound and return to a trend of growth. So broadly speaking, the A&D industry has lots of opportunities for many different types of engineers. Here's a link to a reputable source that shows some statistics on the promising size of the A&D industry: https://www.aia-aerospace.org/2019-facts-and-figures/

It is true that there are a smaller number of companies in the US that design & sell aircraft to operators, these companies are often called Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM). However, OEMs usually purchase parts and subsystems from other companies and integrate these parts into their aircraft. For example, Boeing (an OEM) may purchase the radios, landing gears, or navigation systems from other aerospace companies. There are many aerospace companies that support this supply chain developing critical technologies for air and space systems. Within the OEMs and aerospace supply chain there is a steady demand for talented aerospace engineers.

Long story short - the A&D industry presents lots of opportunities for aerospace engineers & my advice to you is to pursue a career in an industry you are passionate about and will find fulfilling!
