Does workover rig experience help a chemical engineer in the future?

Yes. That sounds like a good experience to learn more about the petroleum industry and what roles chemical engineers can play. We would call that "upstream" experience, where you are working closer to the raw material, as opposed to "downstream", where you are working closer to the material as a product or commodity chemical.
