Emily Ellwein AddedTuesday, April 24, 2018 at 9:21 PM I know I like math. But science? I'm not sure. Is this alright if I want be an engineer? What are the most math heavy fields? I am taking AP Calculus BC this year and I am doing well. I am going to college in the fall. I am planning on majoring in engineering, but I am open to changing to something I know I like better. I see a lot of questions asking "I like science but not math" but I don't see any of the reverse. Now, I don't dislike science. I am not bad at it either. I think I just had "meh" science teachers all of high school. I don't really know what kind of engineering to major in either. I am hoping to figure that out once I learn more in college. I just wanted to let you know that I was in your shoes when I was graduating high school as well. I loved math and was pretty good at science but found it 'meh'. I also didn't know what type of Engineer I wanted to be until the end of my freshman year as well. It is absolutely okay to feel like this, especially right now about to enter college. This is the time to figure those things out! Much like Science being broad, Engineering is very broad as well. If you want to be more focused on the sciences, that is possible. If you want to be more focused on math, that is possible as well. Keep in mind that as you start your college career, that Engineering as a profession is not exactly the same as what classes are like. So just because an Engineering curriculum has a solid foundation in the sciences, does not mean you will be doing only science for the rest of your life unless you choose to do so. You're about to embark on an incredible journey! Good luck! It's ok to not be excited about science and still want to be an engineer. I didn't like some science areas but I'm still an engineer. Even though some of your teachers were "meh", I wouldn't rule science out. College is very different and a professor could teach something you really like! I didn't like math in high school, then I got to college and my professor was awesome. I loved calculus after that! I'd browse the intro to engineering courses, and ask lots of questions about what different majors can expect in the industry after you graduate.
