Both options you suggest are exciting and they both focus on solving engineering problems that are important. You will find relevant fundamentals taught in classes that are common to both and then classes like Aerodynamics, Propulsion and Aerospace Structures that are specific to Aerospace Engineering. In your first year of college, you’ll get a great introduction to both Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, you can take electives in either of these areas and you can ask to sit in on classes. What this means is that if you have a strong interest in Aerospace Engineering but aren’t quite sure, you’ll have some time to experience classes in both to help make a decision. Getting involved in research as an undergraduate sometimes helps as well. As a student, I felt that it was most important to follow my passion and take the courses and program that I was most interested in. If you enjoy what you do, you’ll find a way to make it work as a career and you’ll surely be successful in it!
