Isabelle Giacoma asked Azar Eslam-Panah, Penn State University AddedWednesday, March 22, 2017 at 7:30 PM Which subcatergory of Mechanical Engineering would you recommend after undergrad-graduation and into a masters program?? I have 3 more semesters until i go onto a graduate program. But it dawned on me that i dont know what type of engineer i want to be. Im pursuing a Mech. Engin. Technology undergraduate major and then a Technology Masters, both at Kent State. I have a passion for working with my hands and creating things amd watching them come to life. I love dragons and creatures that fly. I have been applying for NASA internships since last year but i still dont know what i can do. Can you help?? It really depends on your future career and the market. Mechanical Engineering is very broad and it covers most of the engineering concepts. However, if you want to pursue a different branch of engineering, you will focus on a specific field that you enjoy may more but there might be less job opportunities. You should ask yourself if you like industrial jobs or academic jobs? Do you like to do research or teach? If not, industry is a better route for you. I myself love flying mechanisms and also love to design and build things. If you do too, Aerospace Engineering is a great option for you. My other recommendation is Biomechanical Engineering which applies principles of mechanical engineering to biological systems. An internship position or Summer Research project (Research Experience for Undergrads: REU) at your institute will help you to realize if you like these fields or not. I hope this helps. Please let me know if you have more questions. All the best!
