Biography
My name is Jamie Steinberger. I am a young professional with experience in manufacturing and process engineering. I graduated from Michigan State University College of Engineering with a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 2014. I've also completed a Master of Science in Lean Manufacturing from Kettering University. At work, my favorite thing is solving a problem with/for someone that he or she did not believe could be fixed. In my free time, I like following college football and my Michigan State Spartans, as well as the Detroit Tigers. I also like running and training for races - my favorite distance is a half marathon.

I am an upcoming sophomore in college currently pursuing a mechanical engineering degree. I am starting to think that industrial engineering may fit my interests more, though. Unfortunately, the college I attend does not have an industrial engineering degree. I am contemplating transferring, but I am reluctant to leave the school I love. Is it possible to work in an industrial engineering position as a mechanical engineer? Or should I try to transfer or get my Masters in industrial engineering ...

    Hi Rachel,

Great question! I, myself, have an ME degree, also from a university that doesn’t explicitly have an IE major. I think you have tons of options and bottom line: you do not need to transfer.

The amazing thing about an ME degree is the ...

I'm interested in getting my Bachelors in Industrial Engeering online. And I was curious if this is a good field to go into for a woman? Would I have much luck finding job oppertunities? And is it all construction like work or would it be what you make it? I wanted to major in Mathematics but living in California, the school is just way too expensive. If you have any advice I would greatly appreciate it!! Thanks!

    Hi Jade,

Thanks for the question! First things first, I don't think there is any "bad" field for a woman to go into. If that is where your interests lie, then go for it! As with many STEM fields, you will almost certainly be outnumbered by men, but in ...
