  • Why Engineering?

    Dr. Mavis Sika Okyere chose engineering because of her passion for solving complex problems and her interest in the oil and gas industry. She was particularly drawn to the field of pipeline integrity, where she could apply her skills to ensure the safety and reliability of critical infrastructure.

    Her academic journey, which includes a Bachelor of Civil Engineering degree from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and a Master of Science in Gas Engineering and Management from the University of Salford, reflects her dedication to mastering the technical aspects of her field.

    Mavis's career has allowed her to work on various projects, teach oil and gas management courses, and author several papers and book chapters

    Her work is driven by a desire to make a positive impact and ensure the integrity of gas pipelines, which are vital for energy distribution and safety

  • My Day At Work

    6:00 AM: Mavis starts her day early with a morning workout to stay energized and focused.

    7:00 AM: She enjoys a healthy breakfast with her family before heading to the office.

    8:00 AM: Mavis arrives at the Ghana National Gas Company and begins her day by reviewing emails and catching up on any urgent matters.

    9:00 AM: She attends a team meeting to discuss ongoing projects and pipeline integrity assessments. Mavis provides updates on her current tasks and collaborates with colleagues to solve any technical challenges.

    11:00 AM: Mavis conducts a detailed analysis of pipeline data, using advanced software to identify potential issues and ensure the safety and reliability of the gas infrastructure.

    1:00 PM: Lunch break! Mavis takes this time to relax and enjoy a meal, often catching up with colleagues or reading industry-related articles.

    2:00 PM: She spends the afternoon working on her PhD research, focusing on materials science and engineering. This involves conducting experiments, analyzing results, and writing papers.

    4:00 PM: Mavis meets with external contractors and partners to discuss upco

    I enjoy cooking, listening to music, and spending time with my family, especially my son and husband.

Dr. (Mrs.) Mavis Sika Okyere is a distinguished engineer and academic. She holds a PhD in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Ghana, an MSc in Gas Engineering and Management from the University of Salford in the United Kingdom, and a BSc in Civil Engineering from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Ghana. Currently, she serves as the Assistant Manager of Pipeline Integrity at Ghana National Gas Limited Company. Mavis enjoys cooking, listening to music, and spending time with her family.
